A Nutrition Plan example for Oscars 100: Hut2Hut

Running (or Hiking) the Oscars 100: Hut2Hut? Here’s an example of how to put together a nutrition plan (and splits) to help you calculate your requirements.

If you’re running (or hiking) the Oscars 100: Hut2Hut ultramarathon this weekend, you may well be wondering how you go about calculating your fueling requirements. We’ve put together a spreadsheet to help you do just that.

A few disclaimers and comments:
  1. This plan is based on an estimated finish time of 18hrs 30mins and is intended for use by solo runners. It can, of course, be modified to suit multi-day participants, but we would strongly encourage you to add some other items for your post-run refuelling requirements.  Fuelling for 19hrs is very different to fueling for 36hrs or more.  See our Hut2Hut Event Pack as a starting point, though it’s too late to order this for the 2018 event.
  2. The timing of these legs is based on Tegz’ split times from 2017.  However, his watched died before Craigs Hut and even though he was ahead of his 18hr splits all day, somewhere between Craigs and the finish he fell into a time-warp and ended up finishing in 19:15.  He doesn’t know how that happened, so don’t bet the farm of the accuracy of the leg timings.
  3. Your individual fueling needs may differ. Tegz’ consumed an average of 180cals/hr in 2017, your caloric needs (not to mention your fluid requirements) will likely differ from his.
  4. Running Ultramarathon’s in the Australian Alps is inherently dangerous, and we take no responsibility for your safety or any mistakes, stupid or otherwise, that you may make.
